A dive into an exceptional profession

Coralie Barbe and her team have opened the doors of a universe where art, chemistry and the gesture of a practitioner intersect. For to practice this profession, it is necessary at the same time: the culture of the researcher, the rigour of the chemist, and the hand of the restorer.

Each intervention - whether they are old drawings, prints, posters, fans, newspapers or manuscripts - requires a careful reading of materials, whether paper, parchment, leather, fabric or canvas.

The workshop services cover a broad spectrum:

  • Restoration of graphic arts: drawings, letters, prints, posters, maps, fans, newspapers...
  • Book restorationManuscripts and printed, paper-coated or bound
  • BindingOf paper, canvas, parchment or leather, with corners, nerves, stained or marbled papers
  • Manufacture of custom packaging: boxes, boxes, shirts, cases, lutrins
  • Council for Preventive Conservation: state records, health records, preservation plans
  • Training: for professionals in museums, libraries and archives

The workshop works 70% for public institutions - museums and libraries in the lead - and also accompanies private foundations and individuals.

A conviction guides every intervention: to use only lasting solutions in time, capable of traversing centuries as the works they protect.

Exception projects

Coralie Barbe presented us her participation in the reproduction restoration of the manuscriptThe Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berryat Chantilly Castle, one of the most famous illuminated manuscripts in the world.

She also mentioned the facsimiles produced during the manuscript exhibition: on sale Here (external link)and the facsimiles made for the Château de Villers-Cotterêts, emblematic site of the Cité internationale de la langue française.

A striking testimony of what this trade preserves and transmits.
